Being on the front lines of preventive health care, we are alarmed at the proposal to stop fluoridating Boulder’s water (ballot issue 2B).
Some of us are mothers, but all of us are trained professionals with more than 200 years combined dental-hygiene experience and countless hours of continuing education. We know that fluoridation is safe, effective — and needed.
Despite the claims of being about something else, ballot issue 2B is really all about permanently removing what is an invaluable element of good health. Let us assure you, there is no effective alternative to achieve the scientifically established health effects of water fluoridation.
Let us also assure you that concerns over fluoridation’s safety are unfounded. After 35 years of fluoridation here, neither we nor our vigilant public-health officials have seen any increase in the bad things that critics claim are possible with fluoridation. Study after study has confirmed the safety record of fluoridation.
Boulder voters certainly shouldn’t condemn everyone here, and especially the children, to lifetimes of needless pain, suffering and ill health, by kowtowing to the paranoiac fantasies of a few.
